Hat trick by Cripps lifts Rocks to victory in OT
MILVERTON – A goal by Lyam Cripps in overtime lifted the Elora Rocks to a 4-3 victory over the Milverton Four Wheel Drives in WOAA senior men’s hockey league play Friday night at the Perth East Recreation Complex.
Milverton had opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period before the teams scored twice each in the second. The Rocks scored with just under five and a half minutes to go in regulation time to force the extra period.
The overtime goal completed a hat trick for Cripps while Mark Rozak netted the other goal. Andrew Whalen assisted on three of the goals while Shawn Lantz had two assists and Trevor Lord and Kevin Tuckey had one apiece.
Winston Cestnick, Nick Criminisi and Mitchell Boertien had a goal apiece for Milverton while assists were awarded to Dennis Dewar, Curtis Rawn and Chris Eckert.
Craig Byford picked up the win in net for the Rocks while Brayden Bruce took the loss for Milverton.
The win moves the Rocks into a four-way tie for sixth in the 14-team league. The Seaforth Centenaires and Tillsonburg Thunder are both at 4-3-0-0, the Rocks are at 4-4-0-0 and the Petrolia Squires are at 4-5-0-0. Milverton (2-3-0-3) and Durham Thundercats (3-3-0-1) are tied for seventh.
The Rocks are to host the third-place Ripley Wolves (6-0-1-0) Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre.
