Hespeler Shamrocks and Dundas battle to a standoff
DUNDAS – The Hespeler Shamrocks and Dundas Blues battled to a 2-2 stalemate in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Thursday night at the Market Street Arena.
The Shamrocks never trailed in the game and never led by more than a goal.
Hespeler scored the lone goal of the first period and Dundas tied it with the only goal of the second. The Shamrocks shot ahead early in the third, but the Blues pulled even again just shy of 10 minutes later.
Kyle Wagner and Ryan Frost scored for the Shamrocks while Austin Reilly, Dylan Beitz, Wagner and Matthew Tonner each had an assist.
Connor Noonan and Scott McLaren had the goals for Dundas while Ryan Ellis had an assist.
The Shamrocks outshot Dundas 43-33, but were outshot 17-10 after the second period. Both teams went 1-for-6 on their power plays.
Gavin McLeod had 31 saves for the tie in the Hespeler net while Nolan Verardo had 41 saves for Dundas.
Hespeler is fifth in the Bloomfield Division standings at 9-14-1-1 while Dundas is fourth at 11-9-2-1.
The Shamrocks are to host the Hagersville Hawks (third at 15-5-1-2) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. In the previous meeting between the two teams, the Hawks defeated the Shamrocks 7-2 at Hagersville Nov. 30 in a game that saw a total of 81 minutes in penalties called by the referees.
