Hespeler Shamrocks blanked by Norwich Merchants

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded at least one goal in every period as they were shut out 4-0 by the Norwich Merchants in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday afternoon at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Norwich scored once in the first period, twice in the second and once in the third for the win.

Joel Storoschuk, Austin Forsyth, Zach Allison and Kyle Parsons had a goal apiece for Norwich while assists were awarded to Forsyth, Nathan Murphy, Josh King and Carver Monroe.

The Merchants outshot the Shamrocks 37-16 and both teams were scoreless on three power plays.

Carter Spence had the shutout for the Merchants with 16 saves while Tyson Gustaw had 33 saves for Hespeler.

It was the second consecutive shutout loss for the Shamrocks who haven’t scored since getting their lone goal 23 seconds into a 6-1 loss to the Tavistock Braves Sept. 30.

Tavistock leads the Doherty Division at 8-1-0-0 while the New Hamburg Firebirds are second at 7-0-1-0. They’re followed by the Woodstock Navy Vets (5-4-0-0), Norwich (5-4-0-0), Wellesley Applejacks (4-4-1-0), the Shamrocks (1-6-0-0) and the Paris Mounties (0-8-1-0).

The Shamrocks have three games in four days this week as they’re to host New Hamburg Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and then play at New Hamburg Friday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Wellesley Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
