Hespeler Shamrocks blanked by unbeaten Grimsby

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks were handed a 6-0 blanking by the Grimsby Peach Kings in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Grimsby scored twice in the first period and once in the second on their way to the win.

The loss was the sixth in a row for the Shamrocks.

David McKinnon, Tyler Bush, London Murray, Daniel Scotland, Michael Grace and Jacob Balca scored a goal apiece for Grimsby while Murray also had two assists and Maxim Ljubaja, Scotland, Jack Bartlett, Balca, Ry Beattie, Dorion Maye and Matt Schouppe had one each.

Riley Eberhardt stopped all 30 shots he faced for the shutout for Grimsby. Gavin McLeod took the loss for Hespeler, but stopped 40 shots in the 54:40 he played. Connor Pickard stopped all nine shots fired his way during the other 5:20.

The loss drops Hespeler to 1-7-0-0 while the win was Grimsby’s eight in as many league outings.

The Shamrocks are to host the Dunnville Mudcats (0-6-0-1) Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
