Hespeler Shamrocks blanked to complete preseason

PARIS, Ont. – The Hespeler Shamrocks were dropped 9-0 by the Paris Mounties Sunday afternoon at the Brant Sports Complex as both teams completed their Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason play.

Paris struck for four goals in the first period and three in the second on its way to the win.

Alex Ritchie had a hat trick for Paris while Jay Dekker netted a pair of goals and Jack Gee, Ben Hipkin, Robert Colton and Matt Patton scored once each. Luke Fanjoy and Cameron Stokes each had two assists while Patton, Connor Merritt, Hipkin, Gee, Hayden Butler, Kyle Yetman, Evan Gibbs and Brett Wilson had one each.

Justin Hergott picked up the shutout for Paris with 16 saves in the game.

Hespeler’s Gavin MacLeod took the loss. He made 26 saves and was relieved by Connor Pickard for the final 28:56 of the game. Pickard made nine saves.

The Shamrocks were scoreless on their lone power play while the Mounties went 1-for-4 on their power play.

The Shamrocks dropped all four of their preseason matches, one in OT, while Paris beat Hespeler in both of its preseason games.

The Hespeler franchise operated as the Simcoe Storm last season and finished eighth in the Bloomfield Division at 3-35-1-3. Paris was fourth in the Doherty Division at 26-12-0-2.

The Shamrocks are to open their regular season Friday with a game against the Dunnville Junior Mudcats at Dunnville Memorial Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Hespeler’s home opener is set for Saturday when they’re to host the Dundas Blues at 8:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
