Hespeler Shamrocks clouted by Wellesley

WELLESLEY – The Hespeler Shamrocks couldn’t solve goaltender Will Crump of the division-leading Wellesley Applejacks as the Shamrocks were blanked 8-0 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Wellesley Community Centre.

Crump stopped 36 saves for his second shutout of the season. He’s allowed six goals in his last six appearances, four against the sixth-place Shamrocks and two against the seventh-place Burford Bulldogs.

Wellesley struck for three goals in the first period, two in the second and three more in the third.

Connor Doerbecker struck for a pair of goals while single goals were netted by Justin McCombs, Conner Bradley, Justin Zuber, Carson Wickie, Brett Allen and Owen Lee. Allen, Kobe Seiling, Austin Cousineau, Wickie, McCombs and Brady Brezynskie each had two assists while Doerbecker, Alex Hyde, Bradley and Eric Lacey each had one.

Joseph Clark had 40 saves for Hespeler. Wellesley went 2-for-4 on its power play while the Shamrocks were scoreless on five power plays.

The Shamrocks are to host the Woodstock Navy Vets Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
