Hespeler Shamrocks finish preseason with victory
CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks scored a pair of goals just over two minutes apart early in the second period on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Paris Mounties as they completed their Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason play Friday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
Paris had scored a shorthanded goal to take the lead in the first period while Hespeler added an insurance goal in the third.
Nick Donnelle, Matthew Tonner and Devin Schneider had a goal apiece for the Shamrocks while assists were awarded to Noah Trudeau, Ryan Frost and Clay Coles.
Duwyn scored for Paris with help from Borges.
Paris outshot the Shamrocks 31-29 and both teams were scoreless on their power plays. Paris had four power plays and Hespeler had two.
Gavin Macleod turned aside 30 shots in the Hespeler net while Justin Hergott made 26 saves for Paris.
The result leaves Hespeler at 1-2-0-1 in the preseason and the game was the first of the preseason for Paris.
The Shamrocks are to open their regular season Wednesday with a game against the Glanbrook Rangers at the Glanbrook arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
