Hespeler Shamrocks grab home-ice victory over Dundas

CAMBRIDGE – A power-play goal late in the third period secured a 3-1 win over the Dundas Blues for the Hespeler Shamrocks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The Shamrocks scored once in each period for the win while Dundas struck for a power-play goal late in the second period.

Gavin Logher, Devin Schneider and Dylan Beitz scored a goal apiece for Hespeler while Matthew Diebolt assisted on two of the goals and Tony Tikel, Kyle Wagner, Beitz and Brett Hartin each had one assist.

Ryan Ellis netted the goal for Dundas with help from Mikhail Frolov.

The win was the third in a row for the Shamrocks who outshot Dundas 41-20. Both teams scored a power-play goal, Dundas on six power plays and Hespeler on nine.

Gavin McLeod had 19 saves to get the win in net for Hespeler while Nolan Verado took the loss for Dundas. He had 38 saves.

Hespeler is sixth in the Bloomfield Division at 8-13-0-1 while Dundas is fourth at 10-9-1-1. While Hespeler has one more win than it had last season, its 17 points matches last season’s overall total.

The Shamrocks are to play the Niagara RiverHawks (8-11-0-2) at the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
