Hespeler Shamrocks hit to edge Dunnville Mudcats
DUNNVILLE – Two goals in the final five minutes of the second period turned a one-goal deficit into a one-goal win for the Hespeler Shamrocks Friday night at the Dunnville Memorial Arena.
Those goals completed the scoring in the Provincial Junior Hockey League game and gave Hespeler a 3-2 win over the Dunnville Mudcats.
The Shamrocks never led until they scored the final goal of the game as Dunnville had scored the first goal of both the first and second periods. The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first and the third was a scoreless affair.
Kyle Wagner had a pair of goals for the Shamrocks including the winner with 45 seconds to go in the second period. Ryan Frost also scored while single assists were awarded to Matthew Tonner, Matthew Diebolt, Brett Hartin and Ryan Terry
James Bradshaw and Bryce Hoggard each had a goal for Dunnville while Patrick Kucerik had an assist.
The Shamrocks outshot Dunnville 43-22 and were scoreless on three power plays while the Mudcats went 1-for-3 on their power play.
Gavin MacLeod had 20 saves to get the win in net for Hespeler while Austin Davison had 40 saves in the Dunnville net.
Hespeler is fifth in the Bloomfield Division at 11-4-2-1, four points behind the fourth-place Dundas Blues (13-11-2-1). Dunnville is eighth at 8-19-0-1.
The Shamrocks are to host the sixth-place Niagara RiverHawks (10-14-0-2) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
