Hespeler Shamrocks knocked out of playoffs
CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks were swept from the Provincial Junior Hockey League Doherty Division playoffs Tuesday when they suffered a 3-1 loss to the Wellesley Applejacks at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
The win gave Wellesley a 4-0 victory in the best-of-seven divisional quarter-final.
It was the second consecutive 3-1 loss for the Shamrocks at home as the Applejacks had also prevailed Sunday.
Wellesley had started the series with a pair of victories at the Wellesley Community Centre – 3-0 last Wednesday and 2-1 in overtime Saturday with the winning goal coming exactly one minute into the extra period.
Thomas Giffin, Matthew Diebolt and Noah Trudeau each scored a goal for the Shamrocks while Matthew Hayward had two assists. Collecting one assist apiece were Brenden Smith, Braeden Tyler, Ian Geffros and Callum Harvey.
Tyson Gustaw played all four games in net for the Patriots.
