Hespeler Shamrocks nipped by Dundas in home opener

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks surrendered single goals in the first and second periods as they were blanked 2-0 by the Dundas Blues in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Ryan Ellis scored in the first period for Dundas while Brady Bannon added a power-play goal in the second. Danny Attridge, Charlie Smith and Ellis each had an assist.

Nolan Verardo stopped 30 shots for the shutout for Dundas while Gavin McLeod had 25 saves in the Hespeler net.

Dundas went 1-for-4 on its power play while the Shamrocks were scoreless on seven power plays in their home opener.

The Shamrocks are 0-3-0-0 on the season and are to play four consecutive road games before getting four consecutive home games.

Next game is set for Friday against the Dunnville Mudcats (1-2-0-0) at the Dunnville arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
