Hespeler Shamrocks shut out by Grimsby
GRIMSBY – The Hespeler Shamrocks were handed a 3-0 blanking by the Grimsby Peach Kings in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Grimsby Peach King Centre.
Grimsby struck for a goal in each period to get the win.
Bailey Stumpo (shorthanded), Jack Bartlett (power play) and Adam Kozlowski scored the goals for the Peach Kings while Matt Schouppe had two assists and London Murray, Jacob Branowski and Jack Venneri each had one assist.
Grimsby outshot the Shamrocks 28-16 largely due to a 13-2 advantage in the first period. Hespeler was scoreless on four power plays while Grimsby went 1-for-7.
Riley Eberhardt had 16 saves for the shutout while Max Parrott made 25 saves in the Hespeler net.
The loss was the second in as many league outings for the Shamrocks who started their regular season with games against the two teams that tied for top spot in the Bloomfield Division last season.
The Shamrocks are to host the Dundas Blues (3-1-0-0) in their home opener Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
