
Hespeler yields two goals in third in loss to Norwich
CAMBRIDGE – The Norwich Merchants scored a pair of goals in the third period to slip by the Hespeler Shamrocks 5-3 in PJHL play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
The loss was the seventh consecutive setback for the Shamrocks.

Hespeler led 2-1 at the end of the first period and the teams were tied 3-3 after the second.
Thomas Giffin, Mitch Perry and Riley Panagapka had a goal apiece for Hespeler while Jett Spark, Panagapka, Luke Tokarz and Justin George each had an assist.
Reid Lazou led Norwich with two goals while singletons were netted by Kyle Parsons, Andrew Casasanta and Joel Storoschuk. Brandon Balazs assisted on three of the goals while single assists were awarded to Storoschuk, Kyle Brezinski, Austin Forsyth, Nathan Murphy and Lazou.
The Shamrocks were credited with outshooting the Merchants 31-25 – the teams scored on all their shots on net in the first period, according to the scoresheet.
While Hespeler was scoreless on three power plays, Norwich went 1-for-9 on its power play.
Gavan Mask had 20 saves for the Shamrocks while Caleb Ursu had 28 for Norwich.
The Shamrocks (5-31-3-1) and Paris Mounties (5-31-2-2) are tied for sixth in the seven-team Doherty Division. Norwich is third at 28-11-1-0 and will play either Hespeler or Paris in the divisional quarter-finals.
The Shamrocks have two games left in their regular season. They’re to play the fifth-place Woodstock Navy Vets (18-20-1-1) at the Woodstock District Community Centre Friday at 7:45 p.m. and host the fourth-place Tavistock Braves (20-15-3-2) at the Hespeler Memorial Arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
