Home squads post quarter-final victories in senior soccer
GUELPH – No surprises in the opening round of the District 10 high school senior boys’ soccer playoffs as the top four at the end of the league’s regular season posted victories in Thursday’s quarter-finals.
The Bishop Macdonell Celtics, St. James Lions, Lourdes Crusaders and Orangeville Bears all posted wins on their home fields.
Tuesday’s semifinals have Bishop Mac hosting Orangeville at 3:30 p.m. and Lourdes playing at St. James at 3:45 p.m.
Bishop Macdonell 2 Centre Wellington 0
Joseph Raso scored both goals for Bishop Mac while Cohen Grondinger had the shutout.
St. James 5 Guelph CVI 2
Kean Lam had a hat trick for St. James while Johnathan Hernandez-Gibezzi scored the other two goals.
GCVI’s goals were not recorded.
Lourdes 2 Centennial 1
Luke Creighton netted both goals for Lourdes.
Daniel Baumgratz responded with the goal for Centennial.
Orangeville 4 Ross 3
Scoring details not reported.
Guelph CVI surprised Ross in penalty kicks in Thursday’s quarter-finals while Centre Wellington dropped St. James.
Tuesday’s semifinals have Centre Wellington playing Centennial at the Gryphon Soccer Complex at 3 p.m. and Orangeville hosting Guelph CVI at 3:30 p.m.
Centre Wellington 5 St. James 1
Aiden Mead had a hat trick for Centre Wellington while Daniel Vieira and Matthew Bruder also scored.
Mikael Montoya had the goal for St James.
Guelph CVI 3 Ross 2 (PK)
GCVI won the penalty kick portion of the match 3-1 to claim the victory.
Klyan Ladhani scored both goal for GCVI before penalty kicks while Joel Betts scored for Ross.
