District 10

Home teams advance to semifinals in boys’ basketball

GUELPH – The four teams hosting quarter-final matches in the District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball league advance to the semifinals by posting wins Tuesday.

The first-place Ross Royals defeated the eighth-place Orangeville Bears, the second-place Lourdes Crusaders dropped the seventh-place Centre Wellington Falcons, the third-place Centennial Spartans got by the sixth-place Guelph CVI Green Gaels while the fourth-place Bishop Macdonell Celtics edged the fifth-place St. James Lions.

Lourdes is to host Centennial Thursday at 1:30 p.m. while the Celtics and Royals are to meet at Ross Friday at 4 p.m. in a game postponed from Thursday due to the lockdown at Ross Wednesday.

Winners are to meet in the championship game Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

 

Ross 68 Orangeville 35

Robert Vosper and Landon Hart each had 13 points for Ross while Bailey Kennedy added nine and Andrew Becker had eight.

Piotr Zajac had a game-high 16 for Orangeville while Monty Smith followed with seven.

 

Lourdes 75 Centre Wellington 42

Simon Porcellato connected for 15 points for Lourdes while Joe Basciano had 14 and Dom Favaro had 12.

Zack Taylor had 12 points for Centre Wellington while 10 went to Atticus Mason  and six to Na’yl Heeralal.

 

Centennial 61 Guelph CVI 50

Bishop Macdonell 78 St. James 70

Ben Pigozzo struck for 29 points for Bishop Mac while Hayden Schut had 25.

D. Carter hit for 38 points for St. James while J. Bentovila collected 12.

 

Junior Boys’ Basketball

As in the senior loop, all home teams recorded quarter-final wins Tuesday.

First-place Centennial defeated eighth-place Lourdes, second-place Bishop Mac downed seventh-place Centre Wellington, third-place Orangeville topped sixth-place St. James and fourth-place Ross slipped by fifth-place GCVI.

Orangeville is to play at Bishop Mac Thursday at 4 p.m. in one semifinal while Centennial is to host Ross at 10 a.m. Friday in the other one, the game being delayed a day due to Wednesday’s lockdown at Ross.

Semifinal winners are to play in Saturday’s final at 12 noon at the GGAC.

 

Centennial 79 Lourdes 36

Aiden Vandenheuval had 19 points for Centennial while Jack Gibbs gathered 10.

Josh Skelhorn had 15 for Lourdes while Lat Hiyabu had six.

 

Bishop Macdonell 50 Centre Wellington 28

Tyson Hamilton led Bishop Mac with 16 points while Ben Dorling had 11.

M.J. Toppin had six for Centre Wellington.

 

Orangeville 76 St. James 58

Ross 71 Guelph CVI 61

Kayden S. had 15 points for Ross while Trey Holmes had 14.

M. Mwangi had 15 for GCVI while Shaun Singh netted 10.
