Hoogaars’ trick sparks 81’s to win over Wolves

RIPLEY – Tommy Hoogaars struck for a hat trick to help the Minto 81’s record their first victory of the Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s AA hockey semifinal series with the Ripley Wolves Saturday at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre.

The trio of goals by Hoogaars helped the 81’s post a 6-4 victory. Ripley leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, Minto shot ahead 3-1 by the end of the second.

Adam Kawawlec had a pair of goals for the 81’s while Brady Anderson scored the other one. Austin Gaboury, Kyle Ellis and Wade Pfeffer each had two assists while Francois Cote, Kalob Witzell, Jamison Buck and Kawawlec each had one.

Getting one goal apiece for Ripley were Ben Hughes, Garrett Meurs, Tyson Soers and Cody Britton. Keaton Willis, Dylan Sayle and Gerrit Satosek each had one assist.

Ripley outshot Minto 44-26 and held the 81’s to less than 10 shots in each period.

Marc Williams had 40 saves for Minto. Jason Hamilton started in net for Ripley and had 17 saves before being replaced by Gatlin Burt after Minto’s fifth goal. Burt had eight saves the rest of the way.

Fourth game of the series is to go Tuesday at the Palmerston arena. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
