Hot Junior Gryphs U18s triple Niagara

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Junior Gryphons remained hot in the South Central AAA U18 hockey league Tuesday as they tripled the Niagara North Stars 6-2 at the Jack Gatecliff Arena.

The Junior Gryphs have suffered one loss in their last eight games and have gone 5-1-2 in that stretch.

Tristan Tremble and Nolan Hendry scored twice each for the locals while single goals were added by Tyler Brezynskie and Callum Snedden. Getting one assist apiece were league scoring leader Madden MacDougall, Ryan Tait, Ryan Goldberg, Ethan Yantha, Snedden and Carter Lawson.

Max Oldacre was in net for Guelph.

Jordan Marconi and Carson Shannon scored the goals for Niagara while Shannon, Mitchell Dmytrow and Owen Day each had an assist.

Mateo Gruosso was between the pipes for Niagara.

The Junior Gryphs are tied for second with the Burlington Eagles. Guelph is at 6-2-3 while Burlington is at 7-1-1 and has two games in hand. Grey-Bruce Highlanders lead at 8-2-1. Niagara is sixth at 2-5-2.

The Junior Gryphs are to host the Southern Tier Admirals (2-4-0) Sunday at the Gryphon Centre at 5:15 p.m.
