Huron Heights nips Ross for junior boys’ soccer title

GUELPH – The Huron Heights Huskies of Kitchener of claimed the CWOSSA high school junior boys’ soccer championship Friday with a 3-2 victory over the Ross Royals in the final at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Both teams had scored semifinal victories in the morning as Huron Heights defeated Laurel Heights Highlanders of Waterloo 2-0 and Ross edged Monsignor Doyle Mustangs of Cambridge 2-1.

Ross reached the playoff round despite having a loss and a tie in pool play Thursday when the Royals were edged 1-0 by Huron Heights and tied St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener 1-1.

A 2-0 win by Huron Heights over St. Mary’s left Ross second in the three-team pool.

Monsignor Doyle had two wins in the other pool as they edged Laurel Heights 1-0 and downed the District 4 representative, the Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne, 1-0. Laurel Heights dropped Centre Dufferin 10-0.
