Ice cold Gryphon hoops men dumped by Carleton

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons were held to single digits in scoring in three of the quarters as they were destroyed 90-39 by the top-ranked Carleton Ravens in OUA men’s basketball play Sunday at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

Carleton dominated from the start, leading 21-7 at the end of the first quarter, 50-16 at the half and 73-30 at the end of the third quarter.

The Gryphs were ice cold in their shooting, hitting 21 per cent on field goal attempts and 13 per cent on three-pointers. They did hit on 89 per cent of their free throws, but only took nine as compared to 23 taken by Carleton.

The Ravens shot 54 per cent from the floor, 26 per cent from long range and 57 per cent on free throws.

Malcolm Glanville struck for 12 points for the Gryphs, their only player in double digits.

Eddie Ekiyor had 19 points for Carleton while Isiah Osborne netted 14 and Yasiin Joseph had 12. All started the game on the bench. Starters T.J. Lall and Munis Tutu had 11 apiece.

The Gryphs complete the 2018 portion of their schedule at 3-7, good for a tie for fifth in the West Division. Carleton is 10-0.

Next up for the Gryphs is the UQAM Holiday Tournament in Montreal Dec. 28 to 30.

They’re to return to league play Jan. 4 with a game against the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the GGAC at 8 p.m.
