It’s nine wins and counting for Elora Mohawks

ELORA – The Elora Mohawks ran their unbeaten start to the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League season to nine victories with a 25-4 win over the London Blue Devils Sunday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The Mohawks had two nine-goal sprees in the match.

Elora led the shortstaffed Blue Devils 4-2 at the end of the first period and 19-4 after the second. London had 17 players suited up for the game including two goaltenders.

Nick Aitchison struck for seven goals for Elora while Brett Harrison had four, Jayden Bushey, Sam Dramnitzke and Keegan Detweiler three apiece and Jabe Verbeek, Brinley Wilson, Kyle Detweiler, Trae Verbeek and Matt Allen one each. Harrison assisted on seven of the goals while Wilson had five, Dramnitzke four, Busshey, Ryan Litt, Aiden Cormack, Jabe Verbeek, Aitchison, Jacob Hayne and Allen two each and Keegan Detweriler, Cole Doherty, Jake Bauman, Trae Verbeek and Ryan Biggs one each.

London received single goals from Brendan Campbell, Kyle Pizzey, Robert Morgan and Xander Huff, two assists from Declan McEvoy and single assists from Kaleb Fulkerson, Pizzey and Kahelot Powless.

The Mohawks outshot London 71-31 and went 2-for-6 on the power play. London didn’t score on its only power play.

Sam Hedley and Nathan Whittom split the goaltending chores. Hadley started and picked up the win with 16 saves while Whittom had 11. Gavin Clarke and Harrison Kerr shared the goaltending for London. Clarke had 31 saves in the first two periods while Kerr Harrison had 15 saves in the third period.

The Mohawks lead the Western Conference at 9-0-0 while London’s at 0-7-0.

Elora has a pair of games this week as the Mohawks are to play the Wallaceburg Red Devils (4-4-0) at Wallaceburg Thursday at 8 p.m. and they’re to host the Windsor Clippers Sunday at 7 p.m.
