Jet Greaves records another shutout for Canes

BRANTFORD – Goaltender Jet Greaves stopped all 28 shots fired his way to pick up his fourth shutout of the season as the Guelph Hurricanes blanked the Brantford 99ers 4-0 Thursday night in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Gretzky complex.

An error on the website that tracks the league stats led to call-up Tanner Wickware originally being credited with the shutout on his 17th birthday.

Dayten Lylyk, scored the winning goal as he tallied at 6:22 of the first period.

The Canes scored once in the first period, once in the second and twice in the third for the win.

Anthony Mota scored two of the other goals, one of them on a penalty shot, while Bradley Smith had the other one. Smith, Mota, Payton McLeish, Matthew Chard and Ben Demoe each had an assist.

The Canes had 34 shots on goal and held Brantford scoreless on six power plays. The Canes went 0-for-3 on their power play.

The win allowed the Canes to close the gap to the 99ers to a single point. Brantford is sixth in the Midwestern Conference at 13-26-2-4 and the Canes are seventh at 12-27-1-6. The 99es have a game in hand.

The Canes are to host the conference-leading Listowel Cyclones (38-5-0-1) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
