Jr. Gryphons get win, tie in Marlies, Silver Stick tourneys

TORONTO – The Guelph Junior Gryphons opened the minor midget AAA section of the Toronto Marlboros International Holiday Classic hockey tournament with a win and a tie Thursday.

The Junior Gryphs began the tournament with a 2-2 standoff with the Buffalo Regals before they blanked the Peterborough Petes 3-0.

The locals are to complete the preliminary round Friday with games against the Brantford 99ers and Markham Majors. Brantford lost 3-1 to Peterborough and 4-1 to Markham while Markham also battled Buffalo to a scoreless tie.

In the tournament’s minor bantam AAA category, the Junior Gryphs suffered a pair of 7-0 setbacks Thursday as they lost to the Burlington Eagles and the Vaughan Kings. They’ll finish the preliminary round with games against the Chicago Fury and Kitchener Junior Rangers.

 

International Silver Stick

The Guelph Junior Gryphons had a win and a tie in the novice A category of the Brampton Regional Tournament Thursday.

The Junior Gryphs doubled the Richmond Hill Stars 6-3 and tied the Markham Waxers 4-4 Thursday. They’re to complete the preliminary round Friday with a game against the Centre Wellington Fusion.

Thursday, the Fusion dropped Markham 6-1 and Richmond Hill 9-0.

 

Hespeler Olympics

The Guelph Junior Gryphons opened the tournament with a win and a loss in the novice select category Thursday.

The locals downed the Brantford 99ers 9-5, but lost 10-3 to the Innisfil Winterhawks.

The Guelph squad is to complete the preliminary round with games against the Markham Waxers and Caledon Hawks Friday. Markham lost 7-2 to Caledon and 6-5 to Innisfil Thursday while Caledon also defeated Brantford 6-2.
