Junior Blues win three in Cross Border Series

GUELPH – Ontario Junior Blues squads recorded three victories against international competition Thursday in their Cross Border Series at the University of Guelph.

The Ontario AAA U16 boys’ team defeated the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy of the U.S. 34-28 and the Junior Blues AAA U18 boys downed EIRA 47-12.

Junior Blues AA U17 boys squeezed by Queen Elizabeth’s School of Barnet, England, 19-15 and the provincial AAA U17 boys battled EIRA to a 22-22 stalemate that featured a lengthy delay for lightning in the area.

EIRA’s U15 boys downed Ontario Junior Blues West 57-7.

The meet also included a pair of intra-provincial matches as Central defeated West 34-0 in U16 girls’ play and U15 Central handed U16 Southwest a 30-5 setback in boys’ play.

The Junior Blues also had a U16 boys’ Blue-White game and a AA-AA match in U18 girls.

The second day of two days of competition is set for Saturday.

Four Junior Blues teams will play EIRA squads on the south grass field at the U of G. The U16 girls’ Central-West game is also to be held on that field as is a U16 AA boys’ Blue-White match.

There’ll also be four matches on the Varsity Field turf field. U15 West and U16 Southwest boys are to play there while other games feature Junior Blues U17 AA boys against a Guelph/Barbarians squad, Junior Blues U18 AA girls against a Barrie/Barbarians team and Ontario U18 AAA girls against a Southwest/Barbarians squad.

Saturday’s action is to start at 10 a.m.
