Junior Gryphon AAA minor midgets moving on

OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Junior Gryphons gained a berth in the South Central AAA minor midget OHL Cup qualifier semifinals with a 6-4 victory over the Grey-Bruce Highlanders at Owen Sound’s Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre Saturday.

The win leaves the Junior Gryphs at 5-2-0 and guaranteed of finishing in the top two in their pool. The Southern Tier Admirals are also at 5-2-0. Top two in each pool move on to the qualifier semifinals. Semifinal winners get berth in the OHL Cup.

Dylan Hudon struck for a hat trick in the win over Grey-Bruce while single goals were added by Jackson Phillips, Ty Anselmini and Samuel Barry. Ethan Gore had two assists while Mark McIntosh, Justin Marmen, Hudon, Barry and Johnathon Mead each had one.

Alex Nap played one period in net for the Junior Gryphs while Quinn Brown played the other two.

The Junior Gryphs are to wrap up pool play with a game Sunday afternoon against the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs (3-4-0) at Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek.

The Halton Hurricanes (6-0-1) will finish first in the other pool while the second semifinalist from that pool has not been decided.
