Junior Gryphons AAA minor midgets suffer first loss of season

BURLINGTON – The Guelph Junior Gryphons suffered their first setback of the South Central AAA minor midget hockey league season Monday when they were defeated 4-1 by the Burlington Eagles at the Appleby Ice Centre.

Rowan Aljoe scored the goal for Guelph with help from Michael Fischer.

Richard Szajek was in net for the locals.

Ryan McGuire, Chuck Rawson, Liam Blackhurst and Brock Leuschner each had a goal for Burlington while assists were awarded to Cody Inness, Will Fletcher, Rawson, Keaton Stock and Kyle McMillan.

Colton Donaldson picked up the win in net for the Eagles.

Burlington leads the league at 4-1-0 while the Junior Gryphs are tied for fourth with the Niagara North Stars as both have 2-1-2 records.

Next league game for the Junior Gryphs is also an away game as they’re to tangle with the Brampton 45s (0-4-2) Monday at South Fletcher arena. Game time is 8:15 p.m.
