Junior Gryphs AAA minor midgets dump Grey-Bruce

CHESLEY – The Guelph Junior Gryphons clobbered the Grey-Bruce Highlanders 7-1 in Central AAA minor midget hockey play Sunday at the Chesley arena.

The win for the locals followed a 3-3 standoff with the Buffalo Regals Thursday night at the West End arena.

Jake Karabela had a total of three goals in the two games while Daniel McCuen and Liam Power had two each and Madden Steen, Liam Stadnyk and Kyle Kussmann had one apiece. Luke Johnston collected three assists while Steen, Rowan Aljoe and Karabela had two each and Joseph Kosakowski, Stadnyk, Brock Reinhart, Kussmann, Jayden Seguin, Avinash Sindhu and Power collected one apiece.

Guelph (13-9-7) and Buffalo (14-12-5) are tied for fourth in the league, but the locals have two games in hand. Grey-Bruce is seventh at 12-16-3.

The Junior Gryphs have three games to go in their regular season and will finish either third, fourth or fifth.

The locals are to finish their regular season this week as they’re to play the sixth-place Burlington Eagles (12-15-4) at Burlington Thursday at 8:30 p.m., host the ninth-place Hamilton Junior Bulldogs (10-19-0) Saturday at 4 p.m. and host Buffalo Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Both home games are to be played at the Gryphon Centre.
