Junior Gryphs back in lead of AAA minor midget series

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons are a point away from gaining a berth in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s AAA minor midget championship tournament following a 3-0 blanking of the Niagara North Stars Friday night at the West End arena.

The win gives the Junior Gryphs a 5-3 lead in the South Central AAA semifinals.

Ethan Broderick, Ty Anselmini and Ryan Cook had a goal apiece for the Junior Gryphs while Mark McIntosh assisted on all three goals. Anselmini and Sam Barry each had one assist and Alex Nap recorded his second shutout of the playoffs.

Owen Faris was in net for Niagara.

Fifth game of the series is set for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Seymour Hannah Centre in St. Catharines.

If Niagara wins that game, the sixth and the final game of the series is slated for Monday at 8:30 p.m. at the West End arena.
