Junior Gryphs blank Brampton at minor midget AAA Showcase tourney

OAKVILLE – The Guelph Junior Gryphons completed their play in the South Central AAA minor midget hockey league’s Showcase Tournament at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex with a 4-0 blanking of the Brampton 45s Sunday.

The Junior Gryphs collected two wins and a tie in the weekend tournament as they had earlier defeated the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs 8-1 and tied the Burlington Eagles 5-5.

Richard Szajek picked up the shutout for the Junior Gryphs.

Nolan Karger, Ethan Lewis, Liam Stadnyk and Jayden Seguin scored a goal apiece for Guelph while Jake Karabela had two assists and Daniel McCuen and Joseph Kosakowski had one each.

The Junior Gryphs are fifth in the 10-team league at 10-6-6. Southern Tier Admirals (18-1-2) lead while the Oakville Rangers (14-6-3) are second, Niagara North Stars (12-4-6) third, Burlington (12-10-4) fourth, Grey-Bruce Highlanders (9-11-3) sixth, Halton Hurricanes (7-14-4) seventh, Buffalo Regals (5-11-3) eighth, Hamilton (5-15-0) ninth and Brampton (3-17-3) 10th.

Next up in league play for the locals is a stretch of three games in four days as they’re to host league-leading Southern Tier Dec. 19 at 8:30 p.m. at the West End arena, play the Admirals at Pelham Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. and host Hamilton Dec. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.
