Junior Gryphs edge Highlanders in AAA minor midget playoffs

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons edged the Grey-Bruce Highlanders 3-2 in South Central AAA minor midget hockey playoff action Sunday at the Gryphon Centre.

The win lifts the Junior Gryphs into a tie for second in their five-team group of the league’s quarter-final playoffs. Top two in the group advance to the league’s semifinals.

Buffalo Regals lead at 3-1-0 while the Junior Gryphs and Oakville Blades are both at 2-1-0. Burlington Eagles follow at 2-2-0 and Grey-Bruce is at 0-4-0.

Daniel McCuen, Liam Stadnyk and Luke Johnston each had a goal for the Junior Gryphs while assists were awarded to Jayden Seguin, Ryan Tait and Jake Karabela.

Richard Szajek was in net for the win for Guelph.

Austin Griffin scored both goals for Grey-Bruce while Curtis Arnold assisted on one of them and Joshua Peters was in net.

The Junior Gryphs are to host Burlington Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.
