Junior Gryphs first to beat Southern Tier in AAA minor midget

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons skated to a 7-4 victory over the Southern Tier Admirals in South Central AAA minor midget play Thursday night at the West End arena.

The loss was the first of the season for Southern Tier.Jake Karabela recorded a hat trick for the locals while single goals were netted by Madden Steen, Daniel McCuen, Rowan Aljoe and Liam Stadnyk. Liam Power and Luke Johnston each had two assists while single assists went to Steen, Ethan Lewis and Stadnyk.

Richard Szajek was in goal for the win for Guelph.

Jacob Leblanc, Jayden Julien, goaltender Matthew Deluca and Sam Alfano were credited with the goals for Southern Tier while Andrew Leblanc and Alfano each had one assist.

Deluca took the loss in goal for Southern Tier.

The win lifts the Junior Gryphs to third in the 10-team league at 4-1-2 while Southern Tier is second at 5-1-1.

Burlington Eagles lead at 6-2-0.

The Junior Gryphs and Admirals are to tangle again Saturday at the Meridian Community Centre in Pelham. Game time is 7 p.m.
