Junior Gryphs, Niagara AAA minor midgets take it to the limit

ST. CATHARINES — The Guelph Junior Gryphons and Niagara North Stars are to play a one-game AAA minor midget hockey elimination Monday night at the West End arena.

Niagara struck for a 3-0 win Sunday at the Seymour-Hannah Sportsplex to tie their South Central AAA six-point semifinal series 5-5. The teams each have two wins, two losses and a tie.

So close is the series that each team has scored 13 times in the five games.

Niagara’s Ian Dunn recorded his third shutout of the playoffs while Alex Nap was in net for the Junior Storm.

Parker Hendsbee struck for a pair of goals for the North Stars while Trent Swick scored the other one. Owen Patterson and Matteo Giampa each collected an assist.

Game time Monday is 8:45 p.m.

Winner gains a berth in the OMHA AAA minor midget championship tournament in Whitby March 1 to 3. They’ll join the Halton Hurricanes, York-Simcoe Express, Whitby Wildcats and the winner of the series between the North Central Predators and Quinte Red Devils.
