Junior Gryphs post blanking in minor midget AAA playoffs

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons squared their record in the South Central AAA minor midget playoffs at a win and a loss by blanking the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs 2-0 Friday night at the West End arena.

Alex Nap stopped all shots fired his way for the shutout.

Mark McIntosh in the second period and Jackson Phillips in the third scored for the locals. Ethan Broderick, Ty Anselmini and Ryan Cook each had an assist.

The result leaves all five teams in Group B of the OHL Cup qualifier playoffs tied with two points. The Southern Tier Admirals have won the lone game they’ve played while the Junior Gryphs, Grey-Bruce Highlanders and Burlington Eagles each have a win and a loss and Hamilton has a win and two losses.

The Brampton 45s and Halton Hurricanes are both at 1-0 in Group A while the Niagara North Stars are at 1-1 and the Buffalo Regals and Oakville Rangers are both at 0-1.

Top two in each pool advance to the semifinals.

The Junior Gryphs are to host Burlington Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the West End arena.
