Junior Gryphs stay alive in OMHA minor midget AA playoffs
The Guelph Junior Gryphons avoided elimination Friday night when they blanked the Belle River Canadians 2-0 at the West End arena.
Belle River leads the six-point quarter-final series 4-2.
Game 4 is to go Saturday at 6:45 p.m. at the West End arena.
The Centre Wellington Fusion are waiting for an opponent in the semifinals after they swept the Orillia Terriers 6-0 in the six-point quarter-finals.
The Fusion didn’t allow a goal in the series as they won 5-0, 4-0 and 6-0.
They’ll play the winner of a quarter-final series between the Ajax Knights and Bradford Bulldogs in the semifinals. Ajax leads that series 4-2 with Game 4 Saturday night at Ajax.
The Centre Wellington Fusion are to start their six-point semifinal series with the Clarington Toros Sunday at Bowmanville.
The Fusion gained their berth in the semifinal by defeating the Milton Winterhawks 6-2 in a six-point quarter-final while Clarington swept the Orillia Terriers 6-0.
Milton won the first game of the series with the Fusion 4-1 before Centre Wellington ran off three consecutive wins – 5-2, 2-1, 4-1.
The Centre Wellington Fusion could advance to the six-point semifinals Saturday afternoon with a win over the Halton Hills Thunder at Acton.
The Fusion and Thunder are tied 4-4 in their six-point quarter-final.
If the teams tie Saturday, the sixth and final game of the series is to go Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre.
The series winner is to play the Oakville Rangers in the semifinals. Oakville swept the Ancaster Avalanche 6-0 in the quarter-finals.
Minor Bantam A
The Centre Wellington Fusion could also gain a berth in the six-point semifinals Saturday with a win over the Burlington Eagles at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
The series has been a close one and is tied 4-4 with the teams each getting a win, a loss and two ties.
They tied 1-1 at Fergus to open the series before Burlington won 4-2 at home and Centre Wellington won 3-1 at home. Thursday they fought to a scoreless standoff in Burlington.
Game time Saturday is 5:20 p.m.
If the teams tie they’ll play Game 6 at Burlington Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Winner of the series is to play the winner of a series between the Glanbrook Rangers and St. Thomas Junior Stars in the semifinals. Glanbrook leads that series 4-2 with Game 4 Saturday night at Glanbrook.
Minor Bantam AA
The Guelph Junior Storm are awaiting an opponent in the six-point semifinals after disposing of the Burlington Eagles Gold 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
Burlington opened the series with a 3-1 win at home before the Junior Gryphs recorded three consecutive victories, winning 6-3, 4-1 and 2-0.
The Junior Gryphs will play the winner of a series between the Kent Cobras and Oakville Rangers Red in the semifinals. Kent leads that quarter-final 4-2 with Game 4 Saturday afternoon at Chatham.
The Minto Mad Dogs are awaiting an opponent in the six-point semifinals after they swept the Stayner Cyclones 6-0 in the quarter-finals.
Minto dominated as they won 8-0, 7-1 and 8-2.
The Mad Dogs will play the winner of a series between the Sturgeon Lake Thunder and Brock Township Wild. Sturgeon Lake leads 4-2 with Game 4 Saturday afternoon at Beaverton.
Minor Peewee AA
The Guelph Junior Gryphons are to tangle with the Garden City Falcons in the six-point semifinals.
The Junior Gryphs ousted the Burlington Eagles Gold from the quarter-finals, winning the series 6-2.
Guelph won the opening two games of that series by 3-2 and 3-0 scores before Burlington posted a 7-1 win in Game 3. The Junior Gryphs responded with a series-winning 1-0 victory in Game 4.
Garden City swept Tecumseh-Shoreline Eagles 6-0 in their quarter-final.
Dates for the Guelph-Garden City series have not been announced.

If St. Marys wins Saturday, Game 5 is to go at the Centre 2000 arena in Erin Sunday at 3 p.m.
Winner of the series is to face the Niagara-on-the-Lake Wolves in the semifinals after NOTL swept the Thorold Blackhawks 6-0 in their quarter-final series.
Novice Central A
The Centre Wellington Fusion and Oakville Rangers Red are to open their 6-point semifinal Thursday night at Oakville.
The Fusion gained their berth in the semifinal by defeating the Woolwich Wildcats 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
Centre Wellington won the opening two games of the series 5-1 and 5-2 before Woolwich prevailed 5-3 in Game 3. The Fusion came back for a 7-6 win in Game 4.
