Junior Gryphs wrap up minor midget AAA regular season

OAKVILLE – The Guelph Junior Gryphons completed their South Central AAA minor midget hockey league’s regular season with a 3-2 victory over the Oakville Rangers Monday night at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.

Ty Anselmini, Mark McIntosh and Ethan Gore had a goal apiece for the Junior Gryphs while assists were awarded to McIntosh, Dylan Hudon, Johnathon Mead and Zackary Ranahan.

Brett Cowen and Carter Real scored for Oakville with help from Tyler Hunt, Owen Wilson, Jack Willmott and Sam Ostafin.

Alex Nap picked up the win in net for the Junior Gryphs while Noah Pak was tagged with the loss for Oakville. Guelph outshot Oakville 29-15.

The win for the locals followed a 3-3 tie with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders in Owen Sound Sunday and a 4-3 win over Grey-Bruce at the West End arena Saturday.

The Junior Gryphs finish the regular season in third place at 20-9-3. Halton Hurricanes finished first at 23-6-3 and were followed by the Niagara North Stars (20-6-6), Junior Gryphs, Hamilton Junior Bulldogs (13-11-8), Burlington Eagles (12-14-6), Southern Tier Admirals (13-15-4), Grey-Bruce (10-12-10), Oakville (10-14-8), Buffalo Regals (5-18-9) and Brampton 45s (3-24-5).

All 10 teams advance to the playoffs for double round-robin pool play in the qualifiers.

The Junior Gryphs are in a pool with Hamilton, Burlington, Southern Tier and Grey-Bruce while Halton, Niagara, Oakville, Buffalo and Brampton are in the other pool.

The complete schedule for the qualifiers has not been decided, but the Junior Gryphs are to host Hamilton Jan. 25 at 7:45 p.m. and Burlington Jan. 27 at 8:30 p.m. and play at Burlington Feb. 4 at 8:30 p.m. Dates for their other five games have not been decided.
