Junior Gyphons midget AAAs doubled by Southern Tier

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons saw their seven-game unbeaten streak in the South Central AAA hockey league’s minor midget division come to an end Wednesday night when they were doubled 6-3 by the Southern Tier Admirals at the West End arena.

It was Guelph’s first loss since a 5-3 setback to the league-leading Niagara North Stars Dec. 8.

Henry Turner had two goals for the Junior Gryphs Wednesday while Jackson Phillips scored the other one. Dylan Richardson assisted on two of the goals while league scoring leader Ty Anselmini, Mark McIntosh and Ethan Gore each had one assist.

Southern Tier received goals from Nicholas Paone, Colton Chipman, Joshua Reilly, Nathan Brockington, Christopher Angelo and Alex DiFrancesco. Blake Hall assisted on three of the goals while Griffin Vaughan and Angelo each had two assists and Tyler Bowen and Brockington had one apiece.

The Junior Gryphs are third in the standings at 18-9-2 while Southern Tier is tied for seventh at 11-15-4. Niagara leads at 20-5-6 and the Halton Hurricanes are second at 21-6-3.

The Junior Gryphs have three games left on their regular-season schedule. They’re to host the Grey-Bruce Highlanders () Saturday at 4:45 p.m. at the West End arena.

That game is the first of three in as many days for the locals as they’re to play Grey-Bruce at Owen Sound Sunday at 5:15 p.m. and the Oakville Rangers at Oakville Monday at 7:40 p.m.
