Junior Storm, Burlington in knot at minor midget AAA Showcase tourney

OAKVILLE – The Guelph Junior Gryphons and Burlington Eagles fought to a 5-5 standoff Saturday during the South Central AAA minor midget hockey league’s Showcase Tournament at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.

Jake Karabela had a pair of goals for the Junior Gryphs while Nolan Karger, Ethan Lewis and Luke Johnston each had one goal. Madden Steen and Kyle Kussmann each had two assists while single assists went to Karger and Karabela.

Ryan McGuire had a hat trick for Burlington while Alexandros Economou and Kyle McMillan added the other goals. Assists went to Will Fletcher, McGuire and Keaton Stock.

Evan Parisotto and Richard Szajek shared the goaltending chores for the locals while Brett Fullerton was in net for Burlington.

The Junior Gryphs opened the tournament with an 8-1 victory over the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs Friday.

The locals are to play the Brampton 45s Sunday at 4 p.m. at Oakville.

The Junior Gryphs are fifth in the 10-team league at 9-6-6. Southern Tier Admirals (17-1-2) lead while Burlington (12-9-4) is fourth, Hamilton (5-13-0) is eighth and Brampton (3-16-3) is tied for ninth.
