Last-minute goals lift Blitz to win over Lakers

ERIN – Jacob Miller scored twice for the Erin Blitz in the final minute of the third period as the Blitz handed the Plattsville Lakers an 8-6 setback in WOSHL play Saturday night at the Centre 2000 arena.

The teams had been deadlocked at the end of the second period as they’d scored once apiece in the first period and three times each in the second.

The teams had also scored twice each in the third period prior to the final minute of the game.

Both teams rebounded from two-goal deficits in the match. Plattsville led 4-2 with four minutes to go in the second period while Erin led 6-4 with 12 minutes to go in the third.

Miller led the Blitz as his last-minute goals gave him a hat trick. He also had an assist while Lucas Schott had two goals and two assists. Beni Berisha, Anthony Pollicino and Jeff White added single goals while Pollicino had three assists and Berisha, Jordan Tutt and White also had two assists apiece. Single assists were awarded to Pierre-Luc Forget, Brad Humberstone, Kevin Tuckey and Mike Kri.

Noah Czyzewski hit for a pair of goals for Plattsville while single tallies were recorded by Kevin Hu, Bradley Watson and Damian Caringi. Hu, Jason Horvat and Alex Mourani each had two assists while Noah Doyle, Alexander Marchisello, Justin Cheng, Gabe Bruder and Eric Langridge each had one.

The Blitz outshot the Lakers 29-24. Erin was scoreless on two power plays while Plattsville was scoreless on five. Both teams had a shorthanded goal.

Jacob Tugnutt had 18 saves for Erin while Leah Klompmaker had 21 for Plattsville.

After starting their inaugural season with eight consecutive losses, the Blitz have three wins and a loss in overtime in their last seven games.

The Blitz are eighth in the nine-team league at 3-11-1 while Plattsville is sixth at 5-11-0. Tilbury Bluebirds lead at 15-2-0 and are followed by the Tillsonburg Thunder at 12-1-0, Stratford Fighting Irish at 11-3-0, Elora Rocks at 10-4-2, Strathroy Jets at 9-8-0, Plattsville, Alvinston Killer Bees at 4-12-1, Erin and the Delhi Flames at 2-14-1.

The Blitz are to host Elora Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Centre 2000.
