Late comeback attempt by Minto 81’s comes up short
PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s left it just a little too late to come back in their WOAA senior men’s hockey league match with the undefeated Ripley Wolves Sunday at the Palmerston arena.
Ripley built a four-goal lead and then hung on for a 5-4 victory as all four of Minto’s goals were scored in the third period.
Ripley had scored once in the first period and twice in the second before getting its fourth goal 15 seconds into the third.
Francois Cote tallied twice for the 81’s while Tommy Hoogaars and Adam Kawawlec had the other goals. Brady Anderson assisted on two of the goals while single assists went to Austin Gaboury, Tyler Harrison, Kalob Witzell, Drew Shantz and Wade Pfeffer.
Ripley received single goals from Garrett Meurs, Tyson Soers, Gerrit Satosek, Cody Britton and Brett Catto. Dan Nicoloff, Meurs and Kevin Boyd each had two assists while Satosek and Catto had one apiece.
Jason Hamilton was in net for the win for the Wolves while Ben Nelson was charged with the loss in the Minto net.
Ripley is third in the standings at 6-0-1-0 while Minto is 13th at 1-4-0-1.
The 81’s are to play the Seaforth Centenaires (4-2-0-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Seaforth arena.
