Late flurry lifts Fergus Thistles to win over Halton Hills
GEORGETOWN – Carter Hyndman struck for a natural hat trick as the Fergus Thistles scored four times in the final four minutes of the game to hand the Halton Hills Bulldogs a 13-9 setback in Ontario junior C lacrosse league play Monday night at Mold-Master SportsPlex.
Halton Hills had led 3-2 after the first period and the Thistles shot ahead 9-6 by the end of the second thanks to getting three consecutive goals in the final three minutes of that period.
Halton Hills tied it with three goals in the first seven minutes of the third and the score remained tied until Hyndman struck for his first of three in a row at 16:25 of the period.
Hyndman finished with four goals for the Thistles while Cameron Angst had a hat trick and Sam MacDonald added a pair of goals. Recording single goals were Adam Lantz, Brodie Schafer, Alec Beaurogard and Jacob Hayne. Angst and Lantz each had four assists while Jacob Ristov had three, Schafer had two and Hyndman, Beaurogard and Xavier DeMichele each had one.
Halton Hills received four goals from Steven Portelli and one each from Ryan Patterson, Chase Forsythe, Sean Caruso, Hayden Chokrev-Evans and Andrew Atkins. Portelli also had three assists while Patterson and Zac Tarr had two each and Carter Browne, Cody Merritt and Michael Holmes had one apiece.
Tyson Reeves picked up the win in net for Fergus after taking over for DeMichele at 3:39 of the second period. Both allowed four goals and one Halton Hills goal was scored into an empty net.
Browne took the loss for Halton Hills.
The Thistles have two games left on their regular season schedule. They’re to play the Barrie Bombers at the Arthur arena Friday at 8 p.m. and the Wilmot Wild at Baden Sunday at 3 p.m.
