Late goal by Hanover sinks Mount Forest Patriots
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots gave up a goal with just under four minutes to go in the third period to drop a 3-2 decision to the Hanover Barons in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
Hanover had led 2-1 at the end of the first period before a scoreless second. Mount Forest tied it early in the third with a shorthanded goal.

Benjamin Demoe and Matthew Weiler scored the goals for the Patriots while Brock Reinhart assisted on both goals. Aaron McGuirk and Derrick Cornfield each had one assist.
Ryan Colquhoun, Owen Torrie and Drayton Howell each had a goal for Hanover while Curtis Arnold collected two assists and Dean Sealey, Chris Ferri, Dylan Richardson and Colquhoun had one each.
Hanover outshot the Patriots 46-35 thanks to a 17-9 advantage in the third period. The Barons also had a power-play goal on four opportunities while the Patriots were scoreless on two power plays.
Michael Brassor had 43 saves, but took the loss in the Mount Forest net while winning goaltender Riley McCabe had 33 saves for Hanover.
The Patriots are fourth in the Pollock Division at 9-5-0-1 while Hanover (12-2-0-1) and Mitchell Hawks (12-2-1-0) are tied for first.
The game was the first of a four-game homestand for the Patriots. Next weekend they’re to host Mitchell Friday at 8:30 p.m. and the Goderich Flyers (seventh at 0-16-0-0) Saturday at 8 p.m.
Fourth game of the homestand is to be against the Wingham Ironmen (third at 10-6-0-0) Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.
