Late goal lifts Shamrocks to win over Port Dover
PORT DOVER – Drew Fulton’s goal with 5:47 to go in regulation time lifted the Hespeler Shamrocks to a 3-2 victory over the Port Dover Sailors in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Port Dover arena.
That goal capped a comeback by the Shamrocks that saw them rally from a 2-0 deficit early in the second period with three consecutive goals.
Port Dover had scored the only goal of the first period while Matthew Diebolt with the Shamrocks playing shorthanded and Brett Hartin with Hespeler on a power play pulled the Shamrocks even by the end of the second period.
Matthew Hayward, Dylan Beitz, Kyle Wagner and Matthew Tonner each had an assist for Hespeler.
Ashton Mikasko and Aden Morton-Ferguson scored the goals for Port Dover while assists went to Ben Mason, Keaton Kewley, Connor Hisaw and Lynden Lemoire.
Port Dover outshot the Shamrocks 39-22 including a 28-10 advantage in the first and third periods combined. The Shamrocks were 1-for-5 on their power play and they held the Sailors scoreless on seven power plays.
Max Parrott picked up the win in the Hespeler net with 37 saves while Jonathan Sebastiano had 19 saves for Port Dover.
The win lifts Hespeler to 2-3-0-0 while Port Dover remains winless with losses in all five of its league outings.
The Shamrocks are to play the Dundas Blues (4-2-0-0) at the Market Street Arena in Dundas Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and the Bloomfield Division-leading Hagersville Hawks (5-0-0-1) at the Hagersville arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in what will be their sixth road games in seven games this season.
