
Late goals lift Fergus Thistles to victory
BARRIE – The Fergus Thistles scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the game to slip by the Barrie Bombers 13-11 in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Friday night at Barrie’s Holly Community Centre.
Those goals allowed the Thistles to win a game they had led by three goals late in the first period, but trailed by one early in the third.

Fergus led 5-3 at the end of the opening period and the teams were tied 9-9 after the second.
Keegan Detweiler, Owen Tovell and Brinley Wilson each had hat tricks for the Thistles while Jon-James Lavigne scored twice and J.J. Swanston and Brock Redwood added single goals. Detweiler, Lavigne, Swanston and Kaiden Patterson each collected two assists while Tovell, Redwood, Curtis Dietrich, Ewan Mackie, Aiden Mcdougall and Cole Doherty had one apiece.
Myles Shorey tallied three times for Barrie while Dalton King, Luke Wensing and Cody Callow netted two goals apiece. Following with single goals were Zach Mather and Josh Coughlin while Shorey and Carter Barrie each had three assists. King, Wensing and Jackson Andrews each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Callow, Mather, Coughlin, Jack Fletcher and Zach Burke.
Shots on goal were not recorded.
The Thistles went 3-for-11 on their power play while Barrie went 5-for-13.
Ethan Bratton had the win in net for Fergus while Kalib Anglin Ramm was charged with the loss in the Barrie net.
Fergus, the busiest team in the seven-team West Division, leads the division at 4-1-0 while Barrie is tied for sixth at 1-3-0.
The Thistles will embark on a five-game homestand starting next Friday when they’re to host the Six Nations Stealth (1-3-0) at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
They’re also to host the Halton Hills Bulldogs (2-1-0) May 20 at 8 p.m., Wilmot Wild (1-2-0) May 26 at 8 p.m., Orangeville Northmen (1-1-0) May 29 at 3 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre and Six Nations again June 2.
