Late goals lift Gryphs to first win of KDSL season
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons scored a pair of late goals Wednesday night to claim their first victory of the Kitchener and District Soccer League season.
Alessandro Pereira struck for both goals for the Gryphs as they edged Guelph Galaxy 2-1 at the Guelph Lake Sports Fields.
Pereira netted the winner with four minutes to go and that one came about seven minutes after his first goal.
Galaxy’s Andrew Agyare-Tabbi had opened the scoring in the evenly-played game midway through the second half.
The Gryphs improve to 1-4-0 with the win while first-year Galaxy is at 0-6-0.
Both teams are to play again Sunday at 4 p.m. The Gryphs are to host Hrvat (3-1-2) at the Centennial Bowl and Galaxy is to play Aurora Lodge (1-2-2) at Cambridge.
KDSL Women’s Division
Guelph Gryphons Black were handed a 4-1 setback by league-leading Wildfire Wednesday night at Marden Park.
Constance Redmond scored the lone goal for Gryphs Black.
Britt Almeida connected for two goals for Wildfire while Jenn Symanyk and Jess Carter added single goals.
Waterloo-based Wildfire heads the seven-team league at 4-0-2 while the Gryphs Black are seventh at 0-4-0.
Gryphs Black are to host Stratford CT (2-1-0) Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. at Eastview Park.
