Late trio of goals lift 81’s to victory over Milverton
MILVERTON – The Minto 81’s put an end to their four-game losing streak with three goals in the final five minutes of the game as they defeated the Milverton 4 Wheel Drives 6-4 in WOAA senior men’s hockey play Friday night at the Perth East Recreation Centre.
Minto led 2-1 at the end of the first period before the Drives shot ahead 4-3 by the end of the second.
Tyler Harrison fired in a pair of goals for Minto while singletons were netted by Austin Gaboury, Denver Hill, Tommy Hoogaars and Adam Kawawlec. Wade Pfeffer assisted on two of the goals while single assists were awarded to Jordan Delaurier, Kalob Witzell, Hoogaars, Collin Hartwick, Kawawlec, Kyle Ellis and Keegan Angel.
Andrew Brubacher had two goals for Minto while Evan Buehler and Dennis Dewar each added single goals. Assists went to Brendan Goran, Colin Martin, Buehler, Dewar, Mitchell Boertien, Alex Uttley and Mackenzie Kemp.
Shots on goal were not reported.
Marc Williams was the winning netminder for Minto while Tim Bester took the loss for Milverton.
The 81’s are 12th in the standings at 2-6-0-1 while Milverton is tied for eighth at 3-5-0-3.
The game was the first of a three-in-three weekend for the 81’s. They’re to host the third-place Shelburne Muskies (9-1-0-0) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Palmerston arena and the 13th-place Lucknow Lancers (1-6-0-2) Sunday at 2 p.m. at Palmerston.
