League leaders hand 81’s setback in Ripley

RIPLEY – The Minto 81’s surrendered three goals in the first period as they were handed a 5-3 setback by the Ripley Wolves in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey play Saturday at the Ripley arena.

Ripley led 3-1 after the first period and 4-3 after the second.

Tyler Harrison, Tommy Hoogaars abd Adam Kawawlec each scored a goal for Minto while assists went to Chris Hardie, Denver Hill, Francois Cote and Kawawlec.

Dan Nicoloff struck for a pair of goals for Ripley while single markers were added by Garrett Meurs, Dylan Sayle and Adam Alexander. Meurs, Nick Seiler and Blake Nichol each had two assists while Keaton Willis, Nicoloff and Alexander each had one.

Ben Nelson took the loss in the Minto net despite making 25 saves.

Jason Hamilton started in net for Ripley, but was pulled after giving up Minto’s third goal at 4:05 of the second period. Hamilton made 19 saves while Gatlin Burt relieved and picked up the win with 15 saves.

The 81’s are 12th in the 14-team league with a 4-7-0-1 record while Ripley leads at 12-1-1-0.

Minto is to finish its 3-in-3 weekend Sunday by hosting the Petrolia Squires (5-10-0-0) at 2 p.m. at the Palmerston arena.
