Lions climb to top of senior hoops standings

GUELPH – The St. James Lions stand as the lone undefeated team in District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball after they handed the Guelph CVI Green Gaels a 72-57 setback Tuesday at GCVI.

It was the third win in as many outings for the Lions while the second loss in three games for the Gaels.

The Lions never trailed in the game as they scored the first eight points on their way to a 22-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. St. James was ahead 44-26 at the intermission and 59-36 after the third quarter.

Matt Sanvido led the Lions with 15 points while Alex Garbuio had 14, Josh Sims and Josh Mencfeld 10 apiece and Michael Fonte and Dorion Simpson six each.

Jerrol Smiles and Rylan Ninaber collected 17 apiece for GCVI while Aiden Cvetich had nine and Noah Guthrie and Cameron Saunders each had six.

 

Centennial 68 Lourdes 57

Jake Warywoda connected for 17 points for Centennial and K. Clarke followed with 14.

Geeth Kenneth had 17 for Lourdes and Will Vandenheuvel gathered 10.

The loss was the first in league play for Lourdes.

 

Ross 77 Orangeville 61

Cole Miller had a game-high 21 points for Ross and Malcolm Bair netted 12.

Rowan Steele led Orangeville with 19 and L. Bowyer followed with 12.

Kristian Varosi led GCVI with 20 points while Emerson Milbury added eight.

Kelvin Nkubito had 13 for St. James and Adam MacPherson contributed 11.

Centennial 67 Lourdes 51

Sebastian Harman-den Hoed sank 21 points for Centennial while Jackson Davidson had 19 and Jaylen Phillip chipped in with 16.

Tyler Blais had 21 for Lourdes and Mark Fantin collected eight.
