Lions grab win and tie to stay atop soccer loop

GUELPH – A win and a tie kept the St. James Lions atop the District 10 high school girls’ soccer league standings.

The Lions battled the Centre Wellington Falcons to a 1-1 standoff before they edged the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 1-0 in league play Thursday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Olivia Bown scored against Centre Wellington while the Falcons received a goal from Abi Taylor.

Taite Sinkeldam scored against GCVI.

The Lions lead the league at 3-0-1 while the Bishop Macdonell Celtics are at 2-0-1 with one game to report. Ross Royals won twice Thursday to stand at 2-1-1.

Jordan Faveri tallied twice for Ross while Koby Commandant had the other goal and Brianna Ripley had the shutout.

 

Centennial 0 Guelph CVI 0

Goalkeepers recording shutouts were Jessamy Crichton of Centennial and Ryley Wheelhouse of GCVI.

 

Bishop Macdonell 1 Orangeville 1

Georgia Merriman scored for Bishop Mac while Keira Pherson replied for Orangeville.

 

Ross 2 Lourdes 0

Jordan Faveri and Koby Commandant hit for a goal apiece for Ross while Brianna Ripley picked up the shutout.
