Lions into knot for third in senior hoops

GUELPH – The St. James Lions moved into a tie for third place in the District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball league Monday with a 53-40 victory over the Guelph CVI Green Gaels at St. James.

Matt Sanvido led the Lions with 18 points while Alex Garbuio added 16.

Noah Guthrie had 12 for GCVI and Aidan Caroll netted 10.

The result leaves St. James at 6-3 and GCVI at 3-6. Centre Wellington Falcons and Centennial Spartans are tied for first at 8-1 and are to play in Fergus Wednesday.

The Lourdes Crusaders are at 6-4 while Ross Royals are at 4-5, Orangeville Bears 2-7 and Bishop Macdonell Celtics 0-10.



Guelph CVI 51 St. James 35

Kristian Varosi hit for 23 points for GCVI while Jackson Hayes followed with 11.

Kelvin Nkubito had 13 for St. James and Adam MacPherson contributed eight and David Farrelly chipped in with seven.
