London Majors drop the Boon on Guelph Royals

LONDON – The Guelph Royals ran into the hot pitching of Owen Boon as they fell 11-2 to the London Majors in Intercounty Baseball League play Wednesday night at Labatt Park.

Boon held the Royals to two earned runs off three hits and a walk in eight innings on the mound for London. He also had 10 strikeouts to collect his first win of the season.

Two of the hits Boon gave up were solo homers to Sean Reilly, his eighth of the season, and Justin Interisano, his fifth, to account for Guelph’s runs.

The other hit was a single by Josh Garton.

Interisano hit his homer in the second inning while Reilly hit his in the sixth.

The host Majors had a run in the first inning and they grabbed a lead they wouldn’t give up by scoring two runs in the fourth. They added four more in the fifth to take control.

The Majors touched up Guelph starter Edwin Javier for seven runs, six earned, off seven hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings, his shortest starting stint this season. He had eight strikeouts.

Ben Reid and Jorge de la Cruz pitched in relief and they combined to give up four earned runs off seven hits and three walks. De la Cruz had four strikeouts.
