Loss, tie for Eagles at A soccer tournament

HAMILTON – The Emmanuel Christian Eagles had a loss and a tie in pool play Thursday during the opening day of the OFSAA provincial high schools A girls’ soccer championship tournament.

The Eagles were edged 2-1 by the Louis Riel Rebelles of Ottawa at the Caledonia Sports Complex and tied Jean Vanier Storm of Collingwood 1-1 at Heritage Green Sports Park.

Friday, Emmanuel Christian is to play Algonquin Barons of North Bay at HGSP at 9:30 a.m. and Acton Bearcats at 2 p.m. at CSC.

Louis Riel leads Pool D at 2-0-0 after Thursday’s play. The Rebelles are followed by Jean Vanier at 1-0-1, Algonquin at 1-1-0, Emmanuel Christian at 0-1-1 and Acton at 0-2-0.

Top two in each of the four pools advance to Friday’s quarter-finals that are scheduled for 5:15 p.m.

Semifinals are to be played Saturday at 9 a.m. at HGSP while the bronze-medal match is to be played there starting at 1 p.m.

The gold-medal game is to go Saturday at 3 p.m. at Hamilton District Christian High School.
